The McCartney tube is instrumental to performing Total Laparoscopic Hysterectomy. It maintains the pneumoperitoneum during a laparoscopic procedure and allows surgeons to complete the entire operation laparoscopically; it even allows gynaecological surgeons to suture the vagina laparoscopically once the uterus has been removed.
